Canal+ suspends its football payments

Private television has the right to broadcast three Ligue 1 games every week

French pay TV-broadcaster Canal+ has suspended its payments for French soccer Ligue 1.

Canal+ has announced the French Professional Football League (LFP) that it is suspending the payment of the broadcasting rights for the competition, as a result of which the matches have been suspended since March 13 due to the coronavirus crisis.

Canal+ has the right to broadcast three Ligue 1 matches each week. Indefinite suspension will adversely affect your advertising revenue.

Private television had to pay 95 million euros to the Professional Soccer League in early April, which includes 35 million euros for the games that have already been broadcast.

So says Deutsche Bank, who says that Canal+ is not the only suspending payments and possibly Bein Sports follow the same steps. There is still a chance that the remaining matches of Ligue 1 (10 days) will be played in June or July as Euro 2020 has been postponed to 2021.
