ARTE could launch its UHD version in 2021

Expected to cease satellite broadcasting in SD

Franco-German television channel ARTE could launch its version in Ultra High Definition (UHD) in 2021.

This will be possible when the standard definition (SD) satellite transmission ceases, according to the Commission for the financing of German public broadcasters.

If this transition to UHD is carried out, it would initially be for the German version of ARTE. For the French version, ARTE UHD is expected to be a reality in 2024.

ARTE was already broadcasting experimentally through the Astra 1M satellite (19.2º East) two channels in 4K. It was from September 12 to 22, 2018 with an image resolution of 3840×2160.

This essay helped the partners to study and compare the quality of the images through the transmission systems and the different transmission standards chosen (HDR10, HLG, SL-HDR, HD, UHD).
