The distribution signal of the UK’s major television channels has ceased on the Intelsat 901 satellite located at the orbital position of 27.5º West.
The distribution platform has migrated all services to the Telstar 12 Vantage satellite.
BBC has utilized the North Sea beam at 15° W, which essentially covers the UK, Benelux, parts of Scandinavia, France, and Germany.
The presence of BBC channels via Intelsat 901 dates back to even the last century with the distribution of channels in analog.
Subsequently, and now in DVB-S for many years, the main British public channels were broadcasting openly, which was a significant draw when these were encrypted via Astra satellites at the orbital position of 28.2º East.
